The Logo Design Process

I use a fast-track, 5-step process for all of my business logo designs.

Every company has a story – so I’ll always begin at the very start. I’ll get to know your heritage, your goals and your ideal client, then process this information to create a logo that not only looks fantastic, but that supports your company’s reputation and performance.

How do I start?

First of all, I’ll need to spend some time reading through your design brief to get a feel for the kind of look you want to achieve. I can only deliver an incredible concept once I’ve got to grips with the underlying character of your brand, and explored various ways of bringing it to life.

I’m so confident that you’ll love what I’ve produced that unlimited design revisions are included in all of my logo design packages as standard. I won’t stop until you’re besotted with your new design!

Step one – Select your package

My business logos are always created from scratch – but to make life easier for the both of us, I’ve put together a range of set logo design packages. These will make it easy for you to pick an option that’s affordable and yet meets all of your requirements. And if you want to extend your brand into your business stationery, your company flyers or even your website, you can choose to add these extra designs to your order at this stage.

Please note that I require a 50% deposit when taking on new company logo design projects. You can pay me via BACs, credit or debit card. The remaining design fee will be due at the end of the logo design process when the final concept has been approved; and it’s at this point that I will finalise the logo and prepare the files for all the necessary formats.

I totally appreciate that no two businesses are the same, so feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss an alternative payment plan.

Step two – Submit your logo design brief

Sometimes you’re so close to your own project that it’s tricky to communicate exactly what you’re looking for. But don’t worry – I’ve put together a handy logo questionnaire for you that will help me understand your business.
I would always recommend giving me as much information as you possibly can at this stage of the logo design process, because the more I get, the more I can explore! If you’ve spotted examples of other company logos that you like, feel free to send these on to me, too, and I’ll use them as a starting point.
As well as taking your thoughts and comments on board, I’ll also review:
  • Your current business logo, along with all of the print and web materials you have to hand
  • The company logos of a number of your closest competitors
  • Examples of styles that I think will be a good fit for your brand

Step three – Developing your concept

This is the part where you’ll start receiving ideas from the studio! Depending on the logo design package you have chosen, you’ll receive my preliminary designs within 3 working days. Once you’ve had a good look through them, you can send me your feedback on the elements of the design that you do and don’t like, and I’ll make revisions where necessary. Remember, you get UNLIMITED logo design revisions as part of my service, so you have the freedom to be as fussy as you like!

Wherever possible, I prefer to send logos to clients via email. It’s easier to track our conversations this way.

Step Four – Refining the design

At this point, I’ll follow the same instructions as in Step Two as many times as I need to. I’ll keep on sending you fresh ideas until you’re 100% delighted with the final result.

Step Five – You’re ready for launch!

Now it’s time to wrap up the logo design process and unleash your brand new company logo into the ether! Once I’ve received your final 50% payment, I’ll send your new design to you in a range of file formats so you can use it across all of your print and web materials. I will also include a logo style guide, which lists all of the fonts and colour variations used to create the graphic.

When you’re ready to launch your logo, you’ll get:
  • Your logo files in colour, black and white, and greyscale
  • A scalable vector file in AI format, plus formats that are ready for use in print and on screen, including JPG, PNG, GIF, PDF and EPS
  • The font files that have been used within your logo design
  • A square format version of the design that can be used as a profile picture on social networks
  • A Spec Sheet PDF, which explains all of the different file types that accompany your design and reference the colour values and fonts that were used to create the logo

Having never worked with a designer before I was unsure what to expect but Natalie made the whole logo design process easy and seamless. She listened to our feedback and continued to adapt the designs until we were perfectly happy. I was surprised at how quickly she responded with each set of amendments. ”
