Litho printing is a great option for medium to larger print runs and more involved print jobs. It takes a little more setting up than digital print, but can become particularly cost-effective as quantities increase.

You can use a wide range of papers and boards, including coated, uncoated, recycled and textured stocks, with finishing options such as lamination, foiling, spot UV, embossing, die-cutting and different binding methods.
It works particularly well for brochures, catalogues, presentation folders, leaflets, business stationery, business cards and other printed pieces where you want crisp detail and a reliable result throughout the whole run.
If you have a particularly important brand colour, though, litho also gives you the option of printing with a Pantone spot colour for greater consistency.
And because the cost per copy generally drops as quantities increase, litho can be particularly economical for larger print runs.

That includes things like folds, binding, dielines, colours and finishing requirements, so the design and print specification work together from the start.

Litho, or lithographic printing, is a traditional commercial printing process where your artwork is transferred onto printing plates before being offset onto the paper.
There’s more preparation involved than with digital printing, but that extra set-up makes litho particularly well suited to medium and larger print runs. It produces very consistent colour and fine detail, and gives you access to a broad choice of papers, boards, inks and finishing options.
It’s the same process. The word “offset” refers to the way the image is transferred from the printing plate onto a rubber blanket and then onto the paper, rather than being printed directly from the plate. Most people simply refer to it as litho printing.
You have one point of contact for the job rather than having to find the printer, work out the specification and deal with the technical side yourself.

Digital printing is generally better suited to shorter runs, quicker turnaround times and personalised print.
Litho tends to make more sense at higher quantities and where the job needs specialist papers, exact Pantone colours or more involved finishing. It also becomes increasingly economical as the quantity rises.
There isn’t always a hard-and-fast rule, though. If both methods could work, I can compare the options and recommend whichever gives you the best balance of cost, finish and turnaround.
Litho normally takes a little longer than straightforward digital printing because there is more preparation involved and some jobs also need time for drying, finishing or binding.
The actual turnaround will depend on the quantity, paper, finishes and supplier being used, so I’d rather confirm a realistic production schedule with the quote than promise the same turnaround for every job.

I can design the artwork from scratch or work with supplied files, making sure things like bleed, colours, images, folds, dielines and finishing requirements are set up correctly before the job goes to press.
For brochures, folders and other more involved pieces, those production details are much easier to deal with properly at design stage than trying to fix them afterwards.
