With so many online templates and DIY design tools available, it’s easy to think of a business card as something you can quickly put together yourself. But it’s often one of the first pieces of printed stationery you’ll physically hand to a potential customer – and at just 85mm x 55mm, there isn’t much room for a bad layout to hide!

I’ll make sure the typography is clear, your contact details are easy to find and the design works properly with the rest of your branding. I’ll also prepare the artwork correctly for commercial print, so you don’t have to worry about things like bleed, CMYK colours or whether that tiny logo you’ve copied from your website is actually going to print properly.

I can take care of both the design and printing of your business cards, with a wide range of paper stocks, weights and finishes available.

For a good everyday business card, a quality heavyweight board with a matt or gloss lamination is often all you need. But the stock and finish can make quite a difference to how a card feels in your hand, so if you’re unsure, I’ll talk you through the options rather than expecting you to know your gsm from your lamination!

Matt Laminated – A smooth, non-reflective finish that adds durability and gives the card a lovely soft, ‘waxy’ feel.
Gloss Laminated – A high-gloss finish that makes colours pop while adding extra protection.
Uncoated – A natural, tactile finish that’s particularly useful if you need to write on your cards.

What is a business card design?

It’s a small piece of design with quite a lot to fit in!

A business card brings together your contact details and branding in a format that’s easy to hand to customers and contacts. Good typography and layout are particularly important because you’re working in such a small space.
What is the purpose of a business card?

To give someone your key contact information in a quick and convenient format – while leaving them with a physical reminder of you and your business.

And unlike swapping details on a phone, a nicely designed card can sit on someone’s desk or in their wallet and carry on doing its job long after you’ve handed it over.
I’ve created a business card in Canva. Can you print it?

Possibly. Canva artwork sometimes needs adjusting before it’s suitable for professional printing.

I’ll check things such as the finished size, bleed, image resolution and colour setup first. If something isn’t quite right, I can prepare, correct or rebuild the artwork before it goes anywhere near the printing press.
Why are business cards a good idea?

They’re portable, personal and particularly useful for meetings, networking events and face-to-face conversations.

In a world where so much happens online, there’s still something useful about being able to say “Here’s my card” rather than standing there while somebody tries to type your details into their phone.
What makes a business card special?

The design and print should do most of the work.

If you want something more distinctive, specialist stocks, foil, Spot UV, coloured edges or an unusual format can add another dimension – but I’ll always choose those around the design rather than adding effects for the sake of it.
How much does business card design cost?

Costs depend on the design and print specification you choose. A standard laminated card will obviously cost less than an 810gsm triple-layer card with specialist finishing, so I’ll provide a clear quotation based on what you actually need before any work begins.
What are the best dimensions for a business card?

The standard UK business card size is 85mm x 55mm, and there’s a good reason it’s remained popular – it fits neatly into wallets and card holders.

That doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it, though. Square, mini, folded and other formats are available if the design or the amount of information you need to include calls for something different.
Can you print my business cards, too?

Absolutely. I work closely with trusted print partners and can manage the whole thing for you once the design is approved.

I’ll make sure the artwork is correctly prepared for the chosen print specification, arrange production and have the finished cards delivered directly to you.
